Just like the parties involved in the food issue, our team represents the connection between people from different angles, all with a different background and view of the Food Council MRA and its services.

The core team is currently made up of volunteers who make up the Food Council MRA agency.

Arnold
van der Valk

Co Founder

Arnold van der Valk (1953) is co-founder of Food Council MRA and emeritus professor of land use planning at Wageningen University. After his retirement in 2017, he became intensively involved in civic initiatives in the field of food and urban agriculture, both nationally and in the Amsterdam metropolitan region. His specialties are food planning, urban agriculture and food landscapes.

Schedule

Otto Buurma (1994) graduated in Social Geographer and Planologist from the University of Amsterdam. While writing his thesis on urban agriculture in Amsterdam, he came into contact with the FC  MR. From the summer of 2020 he has also become an active member. He also works for an urban planning consultancy.

Brian Ruijter (1994) after studying Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft focused on sustainability in and around the built environment. In addition to his work at FC MRA ., he is  involved in several  passive  housing  and  permaculture projects.

Jeffrey Spangenberg

Co Founder

Jeffrey Spangenberg  Co-Founder Food Council MRA.

Is concerned with food transition and food innovation issues. Founder and initiator of various food projects and food events, such as World of Food, Food Night, We Feed the city. Has a background in business administration,  anthropology and philosophy. Currently chairman of Slow Food Amsterdam.

Community

Sophia Bensch (1993) is co-founder of the Taste Before You Waste Foundation, community worker and activist. In addition to the fight against food waste, she is committed to education and citizen participation, in the pursuit of the democratization of food.

Communication & strategy

Britt Trago (1999) studied Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at the UvA. In the last six months of her studies, she took extra courses in the Future Planet Studies bachelor. She came into contact with the FC MRA through the Food and the City course. She is currently specializing in permaculture with the aim of contributing to the food transition.
